Research on Charities

This post will be looking at the support and charities available to the social cause I am looking to campaign about this will also give me an insight and inspiration on how I should produce my campaign posters. It is amazing to see such a great community provide such great support.

LGBT Community: (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite)

LGBT CommunityThe LGBT Community (or GLBT community) are commonly referred to as the gay community; the LGBT community is about loosely grouping lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender citizens (LGBT). These people are all supporting the common culture and social movements, whether they are LGBT or LGBT-supportive people, organizations, and subcultures.

These communities celebrate pride, diversity, individuality and sexuality. LGBT activists see LGBT community building as an antidote to heterosexism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and sexism.

The term gay pride is used to express the LGBT community’s identity and their collective strength. The LGBT community is diverse in political affiliation; not all LGBT individuals consider themselves part of an LGBT community.

Stonewall (Gay Support Charity)

StonewallStonewall was a Homosexual support charity founded in 1989 by a small group of women and men. They had been active against Section 28 of the Local Government Act.

Section 28 was the prohibition of promoting and explaining Homosexuality; Stonewall created an appeal and campaign against Section 28. Almost 25,000 people across the UK signed up to Stonewall’s Let’s Nail Section 28 campaign. This campaign was what gave Stonewall their momentum, to promote lesbians, gays and bisexuals.

The aim of Stonewall is to create a group to prevent such attacks on lesbians, gay men and bisexual people from ever occurring again.

Stonewall has been constantly promoting at schools to raise awareness and hopefully to prevent Homophobia.

Beaumont (Transgender Charity)

This the Beaumont charity logo

Beaumont is a registered UK charity whose primary focus is the transgendered individual. Beaumont was founded in 1966, as the UK chapter of the secret American organisation “Full Personality Expression” (FPE). Traditionally regarded as a secret group for cross-dressers, it has since evolved to open up and accept MTF, FTM, bi or non-gendered – even the wives and partners. They now have a sister campaign which has been established to provide support for their partners.

They provide advice to all trans-genders, bi and non-genders, at all ages. They also explain how the procedures work and how to become a transgender.

It is amazing to see such a great community provide such great support to its members and promoting itself to reduce the hatred and increase the equality. If you want to learn more I have provided extra links down below for you to get further information on the subject.
